Every day, tonnes of food are wasted in Germany. ‘Counteracting this waste is the main purpose of food banks in Germany. At the same time, they provide people in need with food,’ explains Dr Friedrich Keller, 1st Chairman of Oberviechtacher Tafel e. V., which supports 40 local families every week with its distribution point in Neunburg alone. Dr Keller and volunteer Rita Wilhelm came to the F.EE headquarters in Neunburg in mid-February to receive a cheque for EUR 1,000 from Managing Director Gerlinde Fleischmann and Head of Marketing Kathrin Dirnberger for the Neunburger Tafel. ‘The money was collected as part of our Christmas raffle, in which gifts from customers and suppliers are traditionally raffled off among F.EE employees,’ explained Gerlinde Fleischmann. This year, half of the proceeds of 2,000 euros went to the Schwandorf animal shelter and half to the Neunburg food bank. ‘We would like to thank F.EE for their support and will use the money to cover expenses such as rent, electricity and petrol,’ says Dr Keller. Special thanks also go to the 45 or so volunteers and the regional shops and supermarkets, whose commitment makes the fight against food waste possible.
